Teachers Summer Camp 2018

Teacher Quorum Summer Camp 2018
Dates June 19 - 23

Each person will Need:
Good Hiking Shoes - one pound on your foot is like 8 on your back. It doesn't need to be a heavy boot, a good trail shoe will be sufficient.

Sleeping Bag - It wont be cold so a light bad will be fine

Water Shoes - some cheap water shoes. One of the hikes is through water. It is not an intense or far hike it is more for relaxing and cooling off for the day, so they don't need to be fancy.

Clothes - we will be hiking every day, have your boy pack accordingly. It should be warm most days so shorts are fine but I would have them throw in a pair of pants and a sweater just in case it rains it can cool off. The evenings can get down to the 60's some nights but 70's are most likely. highs will be in the 80's

Hat - for reals have them bring a hat. It will be warm and the sun will be out and they will get hammered in the higher elevations by the sun.

Nice to have:
Camel Back \ Canteen - We will have a couple extras, hit me up if you need to borrow one. Even a backpack that they can throw a water bottle in is fine.

Tent - if they want, we will be sleeping out. rain may be possible some nights but not likely

Cot - if they want to bring a cot to sleep on

Few extra bucks for spending money - we will provide all the food and drinks that will be needed but your boy might want to have a few bucks for anything extra they might want. extra money is not required.

We will be staying at my place in Cannonville Utah, 84718 . The Cabin is not big and we will not be staying inside but using the property for basecamp. We have a lot of room for the boys to set tents up and use it for basecamp. Every hike we will be doing I have done with my family.

Tuesday June 19th
8 AM - Meet at the Silo and  Load Gear
9 AM - Leave Silo
1130 - Stop at Cedar City Walmart buy groceries and get lunch
230 PM - Arrive in Cannonville Utah and set up camp
530 PM - eat Dinner
700 PM Hike Mossy Cave Trail (Less than 1 mile. there is a waterfall)
https://www.nps.gov/brca/planyourvisit/mossycavetr.htm

Wednesday June 20th
Kodachrome - Panorama Trail  - https://stateparks.utah.gov/parks/kodachrome-basin/panorama-trail/
This is a good warm up hike. We will do about a 3 miles of the loop with very little elevation change in the entire hike.
offers a cool view of the Rim of Bryce Canyon where we will be hiking later in the week

Round Valley Narrows - Round Valley is one of the cooler and deeper slot canyons in the area. this is a great hike. total it will be about 5.5 miles

Grosvenor Arch https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grosvenor_Arch
This is not a hike just a cool geologic feature we will be near so we will go check it out

Thursday
Bull Valley Gorge - This is another cool slot canyon, not as long as Round Valley but still cool and has some cool local history top go with it.

If you look close there is a 1950 Chevy truck pegged up in the top of the canyon from when some local fellers wrecked back in the late 50s.

Willis Creek
This is another cool slot canyon. There is water in this one so we will take this one easy and spend some time here soaking in the water and recovering for the day

Friday

Hike Cathedral-Navajo Loop . This is a five mile hike with quite a bit of elevation but it is my favorite at Bryce. It is worth it

Tour all the Sights at Bryce  - We will use the rest of the day to tour Bryce. If there is still time left over and we are not beat I will take them out to Tropic Reservoir for some swimming and exploring
Tropic Reservoir <time dependent>

Saturday - Load up - clean up - head for home.
